Welcome to the Tewkesbury District Twinning Association (TDTA), this was formed in 1982, as a result of the then Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough, Bruce Mitchell, being asked by The British Council to entertain a party of Government Officials from the District of Miesbach, Bavaria. During this visit it was discovered that the two Districts had much in common – similar in geographical size, population, and both having many small villages and towns. It was then decided, to set up a permanent link in the shape of a twinning association, with the aim ‘to further the Cultural, Economic and Social’ links between the two Districts.
Our current membership numbers 60 and in 2007 we celebrated our 25th Twinning Anniversary. Since 1982 many exchanges have take place between Farmers, Choirs, Morris-men, Bands, Firemen and in particular many student exchanges between students from Realschule (Miesbach) and Miesbach Gymnasium (both secondary schools), Tewkesbury, Winchcombe, Chosen Hill (Churchdown), Bourton on the Water and Burford Secondary Schools. Exchanges usually take place in February (from Miesbach) and March (to Miesbach) each year, staying at students homes on a reciprocal basis.
We also make official party exchange visits celebrating each 5 years of twinning, particularly, on the last occasion entertaining their official party at Dumbleton Hall Hotel with a dinner for over 90 people. On another evening, the Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough entertained our guests to a buffet evening at the Borough offices. Their party was here for a week, visiting Warwick, Stratford, Hereford, Gloucester and all places in between.
